Check your builder's licence before you sign
Doorvia Guides · August 27, 2026

Ontario builders and vendors of new homes must be licensed by the HCRA, and its public register shows their record.
The Home Construction Regulatory Authority licenses new home builders and vendors in Ontario. Its public register lists licensed builders along with conditions on their licence, past disciplinary action and the number of homes they have built.
Look the builder up before you sign anything. A long record of completed projects, few unresolved conditions and no pattern of complaints is meaningful information you can get in five minutes.
Cross-reference with Tarion's builder record, which shows warranty claim history and outcomes. Then ask the sales office directly for the corporate entity name on the agreement - marketing brands and the legal vendor are not always the same company.
