Your two-week moving checklist for an Ontario home
Doorvia Guides · May 4, 2026

Utilities, address changes, insurance and elevator bookings all have lead times that catch people out.
Two weeks before closing, arrange utility transfers: hydro, gas, water where separately billed, and internet, which often needs the longest lead time. Book movers, and if either home is a condo, reserve the elevator and loading dock immediately - slots fill quickly.
One week out, confirm home insurance is effective on the closing date, update your address with Service Ontario for your licence and vehicle, and notify your bank, employer, insurer, school and Canada Post for mail forwarding.
On the day, photograph meter readings at both properties, keep a box with essentials and documents in your own vehicle, and confirm with your lawyer when keys will be available before the truck arrives.
