Windsor market update: manufacturing, the border and new investment
Doorvia Research · August 21, 2026

Windsor's market tracks the auto sector, the Gordie Howe International Bridge and battery-plant investment in the region.
Windsor is Ontario's most industry-linked housing market. Automotive manufacturing has shaped the city for a century, and large-scale investment in electric-vehicle battery production has brought new employment attention to Windsor and Essex County. The Gordie Howe International Bridge adds a second major crossing to Detroit.
Prices in Windsor remain among the lowest of Ontario's mid-sized cities, which draws both first-time buyers and out-of-town investors. That mix can make certain pockets move quickly while others sit for months.
Because much of Windsor's housing stock is older, budget for inspection findings: knob-and-tube wiring, aging furnaces and basement moisture are common. Compare taxes and insurance carefully too, since they differ meaningfully between the city and surrounding Essex County towns.
